As the world observed and celebrated the centenary anniversary of Former South African President and Global Peace Symbol, Nelson Mandela, a prominent Nigerian monarch, King Apollos Chu has called on world leaders especially in Africa to emulate his selfless life and legacies.
King Chu, also a celebrated Nigerian philanthropist spoke at the one of events layed down to mark centenary hero of Africa in New York which attracted the attendance of monarchs and select leaders from across Africa.
The King whose domain is Eleme kingdom in Rivers State in Nigeria, said there was need for Africans to live in peace and for the leadership of the continent to embrace unity of purpose to engender the economic development of the continent.
“There is need to reunite the divided house of Africa. That’s exactly what this event seeks to achieve just as we celebrate the legacies of the great Madiba who made the quest for peace, unity and progress of Africa his life’s work. Africa must rekindle these values to form a common front to surmount its challenges,” said the Nigerian monarch.
King Chu joined other African traditional leaders to pray for the peace and unity of the continent around the tomb of Madiba at United Nations headquarter as part of activities lined up to mark the centenary anniversary of Madiba at the Spirit of Peace Conference
Meanwhile July 2018 marked the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela. This provided a unique opportunity for people around the world to reflect on Madiba’s life and times whose passion and commitment to peace and humanity continues to touch hearts world over.
Nelson Mandela’s legacy lives on five years after his death. The global icon continues to be celebrated for having led South Africa in the quest to overcome the oppressive apartheid regime.
Beside his traditional responsibilities, King Apollos Chu is also a renowned author of two books: “The Fall of a Tyrant” and “The Character of a King” which have received a massive endorsements from the traditional institution across the African continent including a recent approval by the Traditional Council of Nigeria.
