In response to escalating crime and health concerns, CARICOM is taking decisive action to improve safety and security across the region. The Caribbean Community has committed to tackling crime and violence as public health issues, while also addressing infectious disease trends and policy implications. Additionally, CARIFORUM launched a €1 million Technical Cooperation Facility, supporting Caribbean integration and cooperation under the EU’s Wider Caribbean Cooperation Programme.
Key discussions during the 47th COHSOD meeting in Washington, D.C., focused on crime as a public health issue, health worker migration, and strategies to boost regional security and healthcare collaboration. Barbados will host a follow-up symposium on crime and security by the end of 2024.
